You have to believe it!
Some people call it "believe to achieve" some say "act as it" and some say "fake it 'til you make it!" :)
Really what they all are trying to get at is what Tony Robbins calls 'state' . He believes we can 'will' ourselves in feeling a certain way by getting into a mindset or state of mind, that is the way we would want to feel. It's an interesting
thought, can you think yourself happy? more energized? more focused?
Consider this quote from William James, one of the earliest psychologists, and a great writer on the human condition:
"Action seems to follow feeling, but really action and feeling go together; and by regulating the action, which is under the more direct control of the will, we can indirectly regulate the feeling, which is not.
Thus the sovereign voluntary path to cheerfulness, if our cheerfulness be lost, is to sit up cheerfully and to act and speak as if cheerfulness were already there."
It's worth a shot to try this. The next time you are trying to find the motivation or need to get psyched up, think about the feeling and create the thoughts they get you feeling that way, perhaps the action will follow.
